Propagate releases Wi-Fi optimization software

ACTON, Mass.-Propagate Networks Inc. released its flagship AutoCell software, which controls 802.11 environments to make wireless local area networks self organizing and self optimizing.

“If wired Ethernet switches worked the way 802.11 APs do today, IT would need to reconfigure the network every time they installed another switch,” explained Gary Vacon, Propagate’s co-founder and chief executive officer.

“Customers need to be able to install wireless APs without having to worry about channel maps, or site surveys or RF interference,” Vacon added. “With AutoCell, if you want better performance, you just add another AP, and the network automatically adjusts in real time. This will save a lot of money for IT organizations.”

AutoCell will be distributed through Propagate’s partners, including Netgear Inc. and Atheros Inc. The solution is currently available for evaluation by Propagate’s partners and will be included in OEM products this fall.

Propagate was founded in 2002 by: Vacon, who previously co-founded NetICs Corp. and was general manager of switching and routing at Bay Networks; Chief Technology Officer Floyd Backes, formerly CTO of 3Com’s switching division; and Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Paul Callahan, formerly vice president of strategic investments at Nortel Networks and group director of IT research at Forrester Research.
