Xingtone launches carrier-independent download service

LOS ANGELES-Xingtone launched a new downloadable application that allows consumers to subscribe to a service that uploads their favorite MP3s, images and game files to their mobile phones. Xingtone’s business plan is carrier independent, meaning subscribers can receive unlimited amounts of content for one fee, and content providers can deliver content without giving royalties to wireless carriers.

“In a free market system, consumers should be able to choose from various pricing models, whether that be flat fee or a la carte,” explained Brad Zutaut, Xingtone’s chief executive officer. “Xingtone has to exist as the alternative to maintain competitive pricing among the wireless carriers. We hope that together with consumers, we can demonstrate the desire and necessity for carrier independence.”

Zutaut added that the company is encouraged by carriers, including Sprint PCS, which offer unlimited mobile data plans that enable the Xingtone service.
