CHELSEA, Mich.-Chrysler Group introduced a new service to connect a driver’s mobile phone with a microphone inside the car using Bluetooth technology, a step back from full-blown telematics services like Onstar.
The new UConnect system allows users to vocally place and receive calls using their mobile phones. Bluetooth technology connects the phone with the car’s built-in microphone. The system will come factory installed in the 2004 Pacifica, but can be added by dealerships in other models for $300.
The service differs from failed telematics services like Wingcast in that it requires no additional service contract and uses existing mobile phones.
