LONDON-Hong Kong-based PCCW has picked up 13 of 15 regional fixed wireless licenses auctioned in the United Kingdom. The auction for the 3.4 GHz spectrum generated $12.4 million for the U.K. government.
Small companies that were outbid by PCCW criticized the terms of the auction, noting that PCCW now has essentially won a national license and is not required to actually roll out service. The government said several consultants advised it on the process.
The licenses included spectrum that did not sell in the U.K. government’s last fixed wireless auction in 2000.
