Sony demos Bluetooth connectivity technology

AMSTERDAM-Sony Corp. demonstrated its new Feel technology, which allows Bluetooth devices to instantaneously connect to each other at this week’s Bluetooth World Congress in Amsterdam.

Feel, unveiled in Sony President Masanobu Yoshida’s keynote speech, is a proprietary technology that will provide connectivity between Sony’s Bluetooth devices, but Yoshida said Sony is willing to license it for a fee. It allows users to simply wave a Sony Bluetooth-enabled device at a Sony notebook computer to begin transferring data.

The technology would make Bluetooth easier for consumers to use, which the Bluetooth community believes is necessary for the widespread uptake of the technology, but questions remain regarding interoperability and licensing.
