Hypres wins $8M Pentagon contract

WASHINGTON-The Pentagon awarded an $8 million contract to Hypres Inc. to build a digital receiver for future military wireless communications systems.

Hypres, Elmsford, N.Y, is a top developer of superconducting integrated circuits for mobile-phone systems and a leading developer of software-defined radios. Work on the radio is expected to be completed by June 2004.

The Department of Defense said the contract was competitively procured under the Small Business Innovation Research Program solicitation.

Advanced wireless technologies developed for military are being examined closely by Federal Communications Commission officials for commercial application in the private sector.
