U.K. company bypasses carriers with porn offering

A pornographic newspaper in the United Kingdom said it has managed to develop a business around wireless porn by sending adult content to mobile-phone owners-bypassing the standard carrier sales channel.

Users pay up to about $8 per month to access the content.

“We needed an easy way to promote the new mobile service off the page from an advertisement,” said Rob Johnson, chief executive officer of Internet pornography company Netcollex. “Simply by texting ‘go thesport’ to 87121, the Bango service redirects U.K. users to our color mobile site.”

Wireless content company Bango operates the charging, billing and age verification portion of the service.
