PARIS-Alcatel said it signed an $80 million contract with Ghana Telecom for a wireless and wired network expansion.
Alcatel will expand Ghana Telecom’s GSM network capacity to 630,000 subscribers. It will also install 250,000 switching lines and optimize its transmission network and fiber optical ring.
When completed, the expansion will create a ninefold increase in the country’s mobile capacity and a threefold increase in fixed-network capacity. The contract is part of a larger, three-year exclusive agreement between the two companies for further fixed and wireless infrastructure expansion.
The project will help Ghana Telecom extend telecom services to all secondary schools, towns and villages in the country, Alcatel said.
