Chinese company releases 1x wrist phone

BEIJING-A state-run Chinese electronics manufacturer introduced a Dick Tracy-style mobile phone/wristwatch that features a tiny keypad, color screen, clip-on camera and support for CDMA 1xRTT networks, according to reports.

The company was not immediately available for comment.

The device would be the second such wristwatch/mobile phone, as Japanese giant NTT DoCoMo Inc. recently introduced its own, dubbed Wristomo. DoCoMo said its first production run on the device sold out in 20 minutes. Other companies including Motorola Inc. and Samsung Corp. have showed off wristwatch mobile phones, but none has so far hit store shelves.

The wrist phone from CEC (China Electronics Corp.) is selling for just more than $1,000.
