Motorola to lay off 1,700 more than planned by year-end

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc. will lay off about 8,900 employees by year-end-about 1,700 more than it planned at the beginning of the year-the company revealed in a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The company fired approximately 5,400 employees during the first half of the year and plans to lay off 3,500 by year-end.
