ATLANTA-Cingular Wireless is managing a wireless trivia contest in conjunction with the MTV Video Music Awards. Users can opt-in to the trivia contest through MTV’s Web site and can answer various text messaging questions for a chance to win $25,000 and appear on the awards program.
Cingular is using technology from Air2Web to conduct the trivia contest. Air2Web has powered other Cingular interactive campaigns, including the “Charlie’s Angels’: Full Throttle” Wireless Sweepstakes, the NCAA Men’s Basketball alerts service and TV polling survey, and the NASCAR polling service.
The nation’s wireless carriers have recently begun working with TV studios and other entertainment organizations to conduct text messaging promotions. The most notable effort to date came from AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and its text messaging service through the Fox TV show “American Idol.”
