Motorola signs Kuwaiti GPRS contract

LONDON-MTC-Vodafone, the Kuwaiti operator, has awarded a US$19 million contract to Motorola to expand its GPRS network.

The deal covers the provision of network services and equipment allowing MTC-Vodafone to increase its network capacity and coverage, Motorola will deploy its Horizon Macro base stations to provide increased coverage in MTC’s 900 MHz and 1800 MHz networks.

The operator’s GPRS data throughput will be doubled with the implementation of coding schemes 3 and 4 (CS3/4). CS3/4 enables the provisioning of data services at up to 70 kilobits per second, providing the necessary capacity and throughput to handle most of the data services currently available to wireless subscribers.

“We launched our nationwide GPRS service using a Motorola network just last year, and with this latest expansion of our enhanced GPRS performance, we can offer more customers the latest applications, providing them with an even better service experience,” said MTC’s Director General Dr. Saad Al Baraak.
