Cingular to offer call forwarding via parent companies

Reinforcing its relationship with parent companies BellSouth Corp. and SBC Communications Inc., Cingular Wireless L.L.C. launched its FastForward device that allows wireless customers to automatically forward unlimited calls from their mobile devices to their landline telephone numbers.

The service, which requires a $40 cradle designed to work with most of Cingular’s handsets and will be available throughout its coverage area Oct. 1, is $3 per month for Cingular customers or free for SBC residential customers who are signed up for a single bill and BellSouth customers who sign up for a combined bill and two additional features. Cingular added that forwarded minutes through the service will not count against customers’ wireless calling plans.

Cingular said the FastForward service builds on a number of previously announced initiatives with its parent companies and will help differentiate itself in the marketplace.

“FastForward is yet another example of how Cingular provides cost-effective, creative solutions for its customers,” said Marc Lefar, chief marketing officer at Cingular. “Along with Rollover, this will set Cingular apart for the pack of ‘me-too’ wireless carriers by providing a service that our research indicates customers want.”
