Verizon Wireless completes Pa. deal, buys N.H. license

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless completed the acquisition of a 10-megahertz PCS license serving the Pittsburgh, Pa., basic trading area from Devon Mobile Communications L.L.C. for $10.5 million in cash. Verizon Wireless, which already controls a 25-megahertz cellular license in the Pittsburgh market, noted the PCS license overlaps its current Pittsburgh operations plus Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties, which have a total estimated population of 2.5 million people.

In a separate deal, Verizon Wireless also purchased a PCS license covering 181,600 pops and network assets serving the Lebanon, N.H., BTA from Devon for $635,000 in cash. Verizon Wireless said the deal will expand its network in Grafton and Sullivan counties in New Hampshire and the southern portions of Windsor County, Vt., and it expects to begin offering service in those markets next year.
