Court dismisses Verizon Wireless contempt charge against CWA

WASHINGTON-The Communications Workers of America today applauded a federal court’s dismissal of a contempt-of-court charge brought by Verizon Wireless against CWA Executive Vice President Larry Cohen.

“This action by Verizon Wireless is nothing short of another attempt to regulate and control free speech, and we appreciate the court’s acknowledgement that such tactics are not acceptable,” said CWA in a statement.

CWA and Verizon Wireless sparred in court on various matters during negotiations leading up to a new, five-year contract reached two weeks ago. The new labor pact covers 51 Verizon Wireless technicians in the New York City area.
