LA JOLLA, Calif.-The threat of spam on wireless devices continues to drive new industry products, with startup DigiPortal Inc. and stalwart Nokia Corp. both announcing new anti-spam products.
Although so far the issue has seen little attention in the United States, wireless carriers in Europe and Asia have had to deal with a notable amount of spam. A variety of wireless players have introduced various products over the years to protect against wireless spam.
First, DigiPortal released its new ChoiceMail product for mobile workers and businesses. The company said the product is permission based and allows administrators to manage the system.
“More and more users are checking e-mail on mobile wireless devices. With spammers targeting handhelds, PDAs and cell phones, we all have to deal with the cost of bandwidth and the time it takes to read junk mail filtering onto our devices,” said Chris Shipley, executive producer of DEMOmobile, where DigiPortal introduced its new product.
Separately, Nokia released a new version of its Message Protector, which the company said protects companies and wireless users from spam, unlawful and unwanted content, computer viruses and other malicious attacks.
Nokia Message Protector version 1.3 will be globally available in October.
