LONDON-Following its announcement Monday to launch a new Microsoft-powered smart phone from Motorola, Orange today launched Palm Inc.’s Treo 600 in the United Kingdom France and Switzerland.
Orange said it developed the device with U.S. personal digital assistant maker Handspring Inc., which Palm is in the process of acquiring
The Treo 600 is a pocket-sized smart phone that combines voice and data functions for business professionals. It uses the Palm OS and has a built-in keyboard, touch-sensitive color screen, stylus and integrated camera.
“Now Orange customers can choose a device with the functionality, text input and size they require, as well as the operating system that best suites them-be it Windows or Palm,” said Richard Brennan, executive vice president of global brand, marketing and products of the Orange Group.
The phone will be available in October.
