OYSTER BAY, N.Y.-Although Bluetooth technology is an early favorite of the automotive industry for telematics and wireless applications, it will compete with a range of other offerings, according to research firm Allied Business Intelligence Inc.
The firm said Bluetooth will continue its momentum in new car models from Acura, Audi, Lexus, Lincoln, Maybach, and Toyota next year, but its role will likely be limited. The firm said automotive players will also consider protocols like ultra-wideband, radio frequency identification, DSRC, 802.11, 802.16 (WiMAX) and satellite.
Regardless of technology, interest in telematics and other wireless services continues in the industry, as Motorola Inc. announced a new deal with Siemens VDO Automotive AG. Siemens will use Motorola’s MPC5200 embedded processor for advanced automotive computing functions like telematics.
