Dutch study finds ill effects from 3G use

WASHINGTON-The Dutch government said new research found headaches and other health effects in individuals exposed to radiation from GSM base stations of third-generation mobile-phone systems.

The research was performed for three government ministries by the TNO, the technological research institute in the Netherlands. The results have been sent to the House of Commons.

“The findings of this research are seriously taken by the three ministers, but cannot lead to definite political conclusions,” the Dutch economic ministry said in a press release. “The set-up and the result of this research are as yet unique. Recurrence by another independent institute is necessary to confirm the findings of the research conducted by the TNO.”

The GSM Association could not immediately be contacted for comment.

A group of health lawsuits against the wireless industry are pending in the United States, though industry has successfully defended itself in litigation to date.
