HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. said it plans to hire 150 new staff for its Salo mobile plant in Finland in a move that bucks industry’s tide of layoffs and export of jobs to Asia.
Although Nokia’s layoffs have been relatively fewer compared with rivals Lucent Technologies Inc. and Nortel Networks Ltd., the world’s leading phone maker also has shown some signs of the economic pressures from the soft mobile market.
The Salo plant employs 4,400 workers and is one of the company’s largest.
