News on the Wi-Fi vendor front continues to move along, with several new funding announcements and additional consolidation.
First, hot-spot aggregator Boingo Wireless announced it completed its Series B round of financing, scoring $10 million for a total funding war chest of $30 million. Boingo said the funding will keep the company moving until 2006.
“Boingo’s mission is to create the premier roaming system for Wi-Fi so that any customer from any carrier, ISP or MSP can access any Wi-Fi hot spot, anywhere in the world, easily and affordably through great end-user software,” said Sky Dayton, Boingo’s founder and chief executive officer. “As we have added hot spots to our roaming system and we sign more and more carriers around the world to drive demand to that system, all parties, suppliers and demand generators get increasing returns.”
Separately, SyChip Inc. announced it completed its third round of funding, earning $15 million. Sierra Ventures led the round. SyChip builds Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits and Chip Scale Modules for Wi-Fi cards.
Finally, public Wi-Fi provider SkyBridge Wireless Inc. announced it purchased NET Service Corp., which the company said will add technical experience in telecommunications as part of SkyBridge’s buildout in Las Vegas. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
