Meru releases WLAN voice, data system

SUNNYVALE, Calif.-Meru Networks Inc. announced its Meru Wireless LAN System, designed to support mobile voice and data on an enterprise scale, is now available.

“We think there’s a strong business case for WLAN that can carry both voice and data,” explained Kamal Anand, vice president of marketing and business development at Meru. Offering voice via wireless local area network at the enterprise level can result in an improvement in productivity, reduced cell bills and lower wiring costs, Anand said.

The system also includes: the Meru Access Point, an 802.11 access point that also functions as an RF monitor; the Meru Controller, a gateway through which security, quality of service and management policies can be configured; and the Meru System Director, a software suite for WLAN services. Meru’s Air Traffic Control technology solution that provides over-the air quality of service is also included in the product.
