LAS VEGAS-Audiovox Communications Corp. is introducing its CDM-9900 series of wireless handsets featuring video capabilities at the CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment show in Las Vegas.
“The CDM-9900 and 9950 are the first handsets to offer both video and still photography in the same unit device,” said ACC President and Chief Executive Officer Philip Christopher. “We accomplished this by using state-of-the-art MPEG-4 moving picture technology.”
The company said the CDM-9900 series phones are CDMA2000 1x-capable handsets equipped with built-in digital video, audio and still photo recording capabilities. ACC’s CDM-9900 series phones can record up to 15 seconds of streaming video and audio that can be transmitted via wireless e-mail to personal computers, Web-capable personal digital assistants and Pocket PCs, as well as other CDM-9900 series devices.
In addition, Audiovox is showing its new CDM-8400 Series of wireless handsets that it said have the look and feel of a high-priced handsets without the budget-breaking price tags.
The company said the CDM-8400/8450 phones have a compact, bar-style form factor and a large, eight-line LCD with a 4,096-color display. The tri-mode handset comes with the MSM6050 chipset, and is CDMA20001X-capable, enabling data connection rates as high as 144 kilobits per second.
The CDM-8400 is BREW-capable, and the CDM-8450 is Java-capable. The series offers short message service text messaging, CMX 32 polyphonic ring tones and a built-in speakerphone.
Audiovox also announced that Verizon Wireless is the first U.S. carrier to offer its newest tri-mode, CDMA2000 1x-capable, full-color, clamshell-styled handset, the CDM-8600.
Audiovox said the handset features dual displays, Web capabilities, two-way SMS, voice-activated dialing and a vibrating alert among other features.
Verizon Wireless will offer the CDM-8600 for $99.99 with a two-year service contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate.
