Premium content market on the rise

SAN FRANCISCO-Interest from U.S. wireless consumers in downloading premium content and using value-added services is on the rise, according to research from business system software provider Qpass and Telephia, which provides marketing and service quality intelligence to the industry.

According to Qpass, revenue per subscriber purchasing premium mobile content grew 148 percent during the first eight months of 2003. Meanwhile, revenue per transaction grew 55 percent, and the percentage of subscriber accounts purchasing premium content grew 54 percent.

At the same time, Telephia said it saw increases in consumer use of data services, the proliferation of Java- and BREW-enabled devices, and the performance of data networks. “New networks, great devices, and product catalogs brimming with great content have all served to help usher this market into a maturation phase,” said Chase Franklin, Qpass’ chief executive officer.

Based on their data results, the companies will form an alliance through which Telephia will offer a suite of intelligence products to Qpass partners and customers to provide perspective into the premium mobile content market.
