LOS ANGELES-Cingular Wireless L.L.C. reported less than 1 percent of its cell sites in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas are currently being impacted by the region’s wildfires, and service restoration efforts have brought almost 80 percent of impacted cell sites back on-line.
In addition, Cingular said it has deployed 25 backup generators to augment commercial power losses at cell sites and has deployed a number of mobile cell sites, also known as “COWs” in the area.
The fires have destroyed more than 2,600 homes and engulfed more than 1,000 square miles of terrain.
