LONDON-Following impressive growth in the U.S. market announced earlier this week, Virgin Mobile said its U.K. subsidiary had its best third-quarter performance, adding 269,381 new customers to push its subscribers base to 3.13 million. The company said its low texting tariff and other “value-focused” offerings are driving growth.
The company’s subscriber base has increased 56 percent during the past year. During the third quarter, Virgin Mobile launched several services, including an $8.39 airtime voucher, several “shop within a shop” outlets in conjunction with Virgin Megastore, and a customer reward scheme called Glue that encourages customers to introduce friends and family to the mobile virtual network operator in exchange for nearly $17 in airtime for each person connected.
The company said its third-quarter growth was second only to last year’s Christmas quarter. However, the company did not provide other metrics, such as average revenue per user.
