BELLEVUE, Wash.-T-Mobile USA Inc. said it added 670,000 net customer during the third quarter, which was ahead of the 606,000 customers the carrier added during the second quarter of this year, but short of the 869,000 subscribers T-Mobile USA signed up during the third quarter of 2002. The carrier noted its third-quarter results included 694,000 postpaid subscribers and a loss of 24,000 prepaid customers and that it ended the quarter with more than 12.1 million total subscribers.
Customer churn improved year-over-year from 4.2 percent during the third quarter of 2002 to 3.3 percent this year, but increased from the 3 percent the carrier posted during the first two quarters of this year. T-Mobile USA’s management attributed the increase to a greater number of customers reaching their contract expiration dates during the quarter due to its strong growth during the third quarter of 2002 when it launched service in California and Nevada.
Service revenue average revenue per user increased from $50 during the third quarter of 2002 and $53 during the second quarter of this year to $54 during the third quarter, which T-Mobile USA said was due to a higher proportion of post-pay customers and higher customer usage.
Total service revenues increased from $1.3 billion during the third quarter of 2002 to $1.9 billion this year, while total revenues were reported at $2.2 billion during the third quarter.
