VANCOUVER, British Columbia-In Motion Technology Inc. and Lucent Technologies Inc. said they have joined forces to provide wireless service providers with solutions that integrate third-generation networks and Wi-Fi networks.
In the deal, Lucent will provide its CDMA2000 and UMTS mobile networking equipment, while In Motion will give its onBoard Mobile Gateway, which links the Wi-Fi and 3G networks.
Both companies hope to provide “business users and consumers with secure, quick and easy access to the Internet and corporate applications from their Wi-Fi-enabled devices in truly mobile environments such as trains, command vehicles, buses and passenger cars.”
