Qualcomm releases BREW upgrade

SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. released the third version of its BREW application download technology, which the company said includes support for memory cards, external keyboards and auto-installing technology.

“The BREW system continues to connect operators, publishers, developers and device manufacturers in the development and deployment of wireless applications and services that produce positive results for everyone involved,” said Jason Kenagy, senior director of product management for Qualcomm’s Internet Services division. “The release of our BREW 3.0 porting kit and SDK tool illustrates our commitment to continuous technical innovation as we produce products and services with functionality and features based on important feedback we receive from all of our customers around the world.”

The new version of BREW allows users to access external memory cards, which can contain music or image files. The new BREW version also allows users to connect their phones to external input devices like keyboards. Finally, the new version allows carriers to segment consumers, including business users and corporations. Operators can also push applications directly to target customer devices via auto-install and upgrade features.
