SAN FRANCISCO-Intel Corp. has recorded a negative first as it has dropped from the first place in flash memory sales to fourth place, according to market research firm iSuppli.
The ranking is for the third quarter of 2003.
The company, however, retains its premier position as provider of the NOR flash memory used in wireless handsets.
Samsung Corp. and Toshiba were first and second respectively in total sales, while FASL L.L.C, a joint venture between Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Fujitsu Ltd., was third.
Total sales for the devices jumped 27 percent for the quarter, amounting to $3.1 billion compared with $2.4 billion in the second quarter.
