MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.-As local number portability finally becomes a reality, a variety of players are looking to cash in on the opportunity. VeriSign, Telespree Communications and LetsTalk.com all announced LNP products for switching customers.
First, VeriSign and Telespree teamed up to offer their new Self-Service Set-Up product for wireless carriers, which the companies said allows wireless users to quickly and easily switch their numbers. The companies said the service automates the porting process through a series of questions users answer after first turning on their new phones. The Self-Service Set-Up validates identity, completes credit and demographic scoring, offers detailed rate plan options and outlines additional features that can be purchased. The service then passes the existing mobile number to the carrier’s OSS/BSS system for porting, finalizes account setup with the carrier’s billing system and completes device activation once the number is available.
Separately, LetsTalk said it introduced a new Web site to help users port their mobile numbers. The site includes a list of frequently asked questions and access to a variety of carriers and rate plans.
