TEL-AVIV, Israel-Alvarion Ltd. announced Swedish television and radio broadcaster Teracom AB will use the Siemens/Alvarion WALKair 3000 broadband wireless solution to build out a nationwide LMDS network.
Teracom-one of four companies awarded a national LMDS license in 2001-plans to now begin a five-year project to build out a nationwide broadband wireless network. Teracom expects to invest up to $24 million in the project during the five-year period.
“Since WALKair base stations can be located on our mast sites and the towers we share with cellular operators, we will be able to minimize our installation costs and to begin generating revenues quickly,” said Pierre Karlsson, vice president of Teracom. “We are confident that WALKair will give us the robust, reliable performance it has delivered in so many installations over the past decade, and that the experienced Siemens Scandinavia team will carry out a smooth deployment.”
