DENVER-Qwest Communications International Inc. is expected to launch VoIP consumer telephone service next week in select Minnesota markets allowing customers to move their current voice traffic from traditional telecommunications lines to less-expensive, high-speed Internet lines.
Qwest has reportedly signed up customers for the service and plans to expand the offering to additional states where it offers local telephone service next year.
“We’ve been signing up customers, and we’ll have the service up and running next week,” Qwest Chief Executive Officer Richard Notebaert told reporters yesterday.
Pricing for the new service was not announced, but is expected to be similar to the $35 per month for unlimited calls offered by competing VoIP services.
