Mobile gambling revenues to hit $16B in five years

DALLAS-Worldwide revenues from gambling on mobile phones could reach $16 billion by 2008, according to a new research report from Alexander Resources.

The research firm expects 2.5- and third-generation wireless technologies and phones to promote the growth of mobile gambling, noting they will allow for real-time, dynamic and peer-to-peer betting. Mobile casino-style betting, mobile lotteries and mobile sports event betting are expected to account for most revenues from mobile gambling, according to Alexander Resources.

The group also noted that certain user, payment, security, privacy, regulatory and technology challenges could stall growth in the market, influencing the amount of revenues forecasted.
