CHESTERFIELD, Mo.-Worldwide sales of wireless metropolitan area networks will surge to more than $5 billion a year by 2007, according to a report by Datacomm Research Co.
The report, titled “Wireless Metropolitan Networks: Opportunities and Illusions,” attributed this surge to exploding demand for third-generation backhaul, metro Ethernet and wireless DSL services.
“The growing need for high-speed communications between fixed locations combined with rapidly evolving technology will breathe new life into the wireless MAN industry,” said Ira Brodsky, president of Datacomm Research and author of the study. “However, vendors must stay focused on customers and applications and not succumb to unrealistic expectations spurred by committee-designed standards.”
