LOS ANGELES-Wireless gaming company Jamdat Mobile Inc. announced a sequel to its popular Jamdat Bowling application, a game that will feature enhanced audio and multiplayer features.
“With over 2 million downloads, the original Jamdat Bowling is a milestone wireless game for the company and the industry,” said Mitch Lasky, the company’s chief executive officer. “Jamdat Bowling 2 adds a great multiplayer experience to the original so that players can take full advantage of the wireless networks.”
Jamdat, riding the success of its popular bowling game, has come to represent the potential of the wireless gaming market. With the release of its Bowling sequel, the company is looking to stamp out the market for wireless multiplayer games.
Jamdat Bowling 2 offers real-time multiplayer functions by pairing users against each other. Score updates appear during the game to allow players to see who is winning. Online rankings will include top-10 scores, top-10 series and perfect “300” games. The game will also feature sound effects and music.
Multiplayer gaming has quickly become the next major technology for the wireless gaming market. Jamdat acknowledged the potential with its purchase last year of multiplayer gaming technology from wireless gaming company DemiVision L.L.C. A variety of other players, including Mforma, Sorrent Inc. and Atlas Mobile, have released multiplayer games and gaming technology. Indeed, the wireless data division of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association recently named multiplayer gaming as one of its next major areas of work.
