VIENNA, Austria-Telefonica Moviles said last week it sold its third-generation license in Austria to market leader Mobilkom Austria for an undisclosed amount.
The Austrian regulator RTR has already approved the sale, according to Telefonica Moviles. Under Austrian regulations, Mobilkom Austria has agreed to sell part of the 9.8 megahertz of spectrum before Jan. 31, 2005, giving it at least 14.8 megahertz of UMTS spectrum long term.
Telefonica Moviles purchased a UMTS license in Austria in November 2000. However, in 2002, the Spanish carrier wrote down its Austrian assets and said it had indefinitely delayed its rollout plans in the country.
