AlertsUSA offers wireless homeland security updates

WILMINGTON, N.C.-AlertsUSA L.L.C. gathers information related to terrorism threats to the United States and its interests abroad and delivers them to subscribers via mobile phone.

The service notifies cellular-phone users of domestic terror alerts, warnings, terrorist events and changes in the national threat level. AlertsUSA also offers weekly homeland security news summaries and official guidance on how to respond via text messages and live audio broadcasts. The service costs $3 per month.

“Over 60 percent of the adult population carries at least one cellular telephone, as do most law enforcement personnel, first responders and government employees,” said Steven Aukstakalnis, president of AlertsUSA. “The ability to flash `instant situational awareness’ of threat advisories, alerts and warnings to such a large segment of the population is unmatched by any other form of communication or delivery.”
