Midwest Wireless has launched its CDMA2000 1x digital network in 17 counties in Iowa. Midwest Wireless has 28,000 customers in the counties, which the carrier acquired when it purchased Cellcom’s wireless network there in October. Following the acquisition, Midwest Wireless said it would invest $3.9 million to bring CDMA2000 1x digital technology to the network by year-end.
Midwest Wireless spent a total of $25 million to upgrade its entire network, which covers 85 counties in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, to CDMA2000 1x technology in 2003.
