SAO PAULO, Brazil-Brazil’s largest mobile operator signed a contract with Lucent Technologies Inc. to expand the operator’s CDMA2000 1x network. The expansion will cover Vivo’s network in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and other regions in both states, including the cities of Praia Grande and Teresopolis, and the Lakes region.
The expansion should be completed in early 2004 and includes more than 500 base stations from Lucent, as well as new mobile switching centers.
The value of the contract was not disclosed. Vivo includes the combined operations of Portugal Telecom and Telefonica Moviles.
