T-Mobile claims gains from wireless LNP

PHOENIX-T-Mobile USA Inc. said it has gained two customers for every one customer it has lost since the implementation of wireless local number portability.

“T-Mobile is a net winner in WLNP,” according to a presentation from Brian Kirkpatrick, T-Mobile’s chief financial officer, at last week’s Smith Barney Citigroup Entertainment Media and Telecom Conference. Kirkpatrick said T-Mobile continues to improve its systems and process performance, resolve consumer and inter-carrier issues, and has experienced a “four-fold improvement” on completing porting requests within the first 24 hours.

Kirkpatrick noted porting volumes have been lower than expected, and the number of requests to port from wireline to T-Mobile have been higher than expected. Rates of completion on wireline-to-wireless porting, however, have been low, according to Kirkpatrick, “due to cumbersome wireline company processes.”
