RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.-Nortel Networks Ltd. said it has set up a core interoperability laboratory and forged testing partnerships with a number of new vendors.
The new lab will enhance speed to market for developing such applications as voice over Internet Protocol and other multimedia offerings, according to the company. This program, which focuses on wireline technology, also has implication for its wireless business. The company’s core network competency has driven its increasing traction among wireless carriers.
Some of the new vendors include Acme Packet, AFC, AudioCodes and Westell Technologies Inc.
“Service providers today want a network comprised of multiple vendors, but interoperability has emerged as one of the biggest challengers they face in creating multi-vendor environments,” said Danny Klein, communications infrastructure analyst at Yankee Group.
