BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless and Eastman Kodak Co. said the Kodak Mobile Service will be available to Verizon Wireless’ Get It Now customers, allowing users to view, share, organize and store their digital photos in one place.
Customers with Get It Now-capable camera phones can download the service to their handset for a free initial trial, and if they choose to keep the service, they can subscribe on a monthly or annual basis through participating carriers or directly through Kodak.
Kodak announced a similar agreement last year with Cingular Wireless L.L.C. as part of the carrier’s MMS offering. The Cingular offering was free for 90 days if customers signed up before Jan. 31 and $3 per month following the trial.
Wireless imaging also received a boost from Canon Inc., Epson and Hewlett-Packard Co., which formed the Mobile Imaging and Printing Consortium in an attempt to drive standards for allowing customers to print images from camera phones. The companies said they expect to implement guidelines for the mobile-phone industry by the second half of this year and plan to use existing connectivity standards including Bluetooth, memory cards and a wired solution from PictBridge.
