Agere introduces handset architecture

ALLENTOWN, Pa.-Agere Systems Inc. has introduced a mobile handset architecture it believes will allow handset makers to achieve faster time to market for their smart phones.

The company said the architecture will enhance such dynamic media applications as real-time audio and video streaming, digital photo imaging and interactive gaming.

The architecture covers three main areas: the communications processor, applications processor and signal processor.

“This segmentation allows each processor to be fully dedicated to its particular function and eliminates complications such as increased integration and debug times that often occur with solutions that offer combined communications and applications processing,” said Agere.
