Syndeo chooses Tropos Wi-Fi equipment

SAN MATEO, Calif.-Tropos Networks announced Lafayette, La.-based Syndeo Communications Group has chosen it to supply outdoor Wi-Fi equipment to build metro-scale Wi-Fi networks in rural areas in the southeastern United States.

Syndeo plans to use Tropos’ 5110 outdoor Wi-Fi cells, which can be mounted on external structures like buildings or lamp posts, to provide high-bandwidth application access to education, business, residential and municipality customers in areas wireline broadband providers usually skip over.

So far, Syndeo has “unwired” more than 13 square miles of Lafayette using Tropos 5110 Wi-Fi cells. Users can access the network via standard 802.11 client devices.

“Syndeo is mining a large seam of unmet demand in today’s market-delivering broadband to underserved areas,” said Ron Sege, president and chief executive officer of Tropos. “Tropos Networks is committed to helping Syndeo continue to expand its footprint throughout the southeastern United States. Our carrier-class Tropos 5110 Wi-Fi cells provide the coverage, flexibility, and management capabilities needed to achieve this ambitious goal.

Syndeo said it plans to announce further deployments of Tropos equipment throughout the state of Louisiana in the next several months.
