Orange details 3G launch plans

CANNES, France-Orange plc announced commercial trials of its 3G network in the United Kingdom and France, and confirmed it plans to launch full commercial 3G services in each country in the second half of the year, during an update on its 3G strategy at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France. The operator also said it has created nine 3G Developer Centers around the world.

“This year, Orange delivers on its promise of an enhanced network, giving customers the speed and richness of services that will transform their Orange device into a powerhouse of mobile applications and services, accessible at the touch of a button,” said Sanjiv Ahuja, chief operating officer of the Orange Group.

“We are working with hundreds of industry partners and innovative companies behind the scenes to deliver an unrivalled Orange Experience across this new mobile landscape,” Ahuja added. Those partners include Alcatel, Nokia Corp. and Nortel Networks Ltd., which have partnered with Orange to deploy 3G radio access network technology in the U.K. and France.
