CANNES-Intel Corp. has unveiled the details of its next-generation cellular and baseband processors, which include a dual-mode UMTS solution.
The family of processors, which will be known as Hermon, aim to bring a coexistence of multiple broadband wireless technologies and a multimode reference platform for cell phones.
“There won’t be a battle of competing technologies,” said Intel President and COO Paul Otellini. “It will be a requirement that Wi-Fi, WiMax and 3G coexist; and that coexistence is going to enable a host of exciting new applications and business models.”
The company also unveiled a new three-radio reference design for cell phones with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GSM/GPRS capability built in, running Intel’s latest applications processors and IntelFlash memory.
The company also said it is working with a leading phone vendor to make cell phones based on its technology.
