WASHINGTON-The auction for 55 licenses in the 900 MHz band closed late Wednesday with 46 of the licenses going to a subsidiary of Nextel Communications Inc.
ACI 900 Inc. was one of five winners of licenses out of 17 qualified bidders. ACI’s ownership is interesting because Nextel has suggested giving back its previous 900 MHz holdings as part of its plan to solve public-safety interference in the 800 MHz band.
The 900 MHz auction took 76 rounds over 10 days and garnered winning bids totaling nearly $4.86 million.
A public notice announcing the results is expected to be released shortly. In the meantime, further information about the auction results can be found on the Federal Communications Commission’s Web site: www.fcc.gov.
