SymbianPages.com to be shut down

LONDON-Operating system company Symbian said it will shut down its SymbianPages.com Web site in order to focus on other marketing initiatives. The Web site will shut down May 1.

“Symbian originally established Symbian Pages to act as a market information directory in order to encourage the emergence and commercial development of the Symbian OS Ecosystem,” the company wrote in a posting on the Web site. “With the growing success of Symbian and Symbian OS, a very wide range of alternatives to Symbian Pages have emerged and are now thriving commercially. It is therefore appropriate for Symbian to withdraw from the sort of activity represented by Symbian Pages and to focus resources on other market development activities.”

A company spokeswoman said other Internet sites, such as SymbianOne.com, have emerged to take the place of the Web site.

Symbian sells it mobile-phone operating system to various handset manufacturers, including Nokia Corp. and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P.
