WOODBURY, N.Y.-Siemens AG said it is collaborating with Comverse Technology Inc. to provide GSM-R services like voice and short message services to leading Scandinavian railways in Norway and Finland.
GSM-R is a wireless system adapted to specific railway needs, which include guard/conductor to driver communication, shunting, cross-border communication, and instant communication between train and station staff.
The network extends for thousands of miles and on fast-moving trains, according to the companies.
